November 2026 OWS Pet of the Month: Ginger

Meet Ginger, a golden retriever, our inaugural OWS pet of the month!

Ginger’s Bio

Hi, my name is Ginger. I am a golden retriever. I was born on a farm, May 31, 2020, when most Michiganders were not going anywhere. For some reason, everyone who ever thought of getting a puppy decided it was good time to do so. When I was seven weeks old, an older couple stopped by. They put a little purple collar on me and, a week later, they came back and put me in their car. We drove to their house in a very busy neighborhood, with people walking grownup dogs that did not look like me. That same day, they took me to meet a human family with a little fellow, Julian. He kept following me around and pulling my ears. He was pretty clumsy, but I liked him. Another day Julian’s parents brought home a baby they called Leo. He had a very loud scream, which hurt my ears. But I liked him too, he smelled good. My owners, Pete and Alexandra, treat me like a princess. We take long walks every morning to places with names like Wurster, Almendinger and Campus and The Big House. I like walks in winter because I never get hot. Except when I get ice balls between my toes.

Neighborhood Spotlight

If you are outside between 7-8 a.m., you'll probably see me walking with Pete and Alexandra. I know every street on the Old West Side and downtown, where we often stop for coffee and a dog biscuit.

Fun Fact

Did I say I love snacks? Almost as much I love Julian and Leo.

Best Feature

I love everyone I see.
